Live for the Now

The notion of living in the moment is not a new concept, everyone has heard the term “stop and smell the flowers”, but for something that is so widely propagated, it is rarely practiced. Whether consciously or not,  to some degree we are constantly in a state of distraction. I believe the evolution of technology and machines over time has made it nearly impossible for humans to experience life properly, leaving nothing but missed connections and an addiction to the instant gratification of holding the world in the palm of your hand.
Now more than ever is an important time to remind ourselves and others, especially as teachers to students, putting down your phone, turning off TVs, etc. and blocking out all other unnecessaries to focus on what is happening this very moment with the people around you is important to who we are.  Humans have slowly become less connected to each other and the natural world, and this changes who we are as a species. Unless there is an apocalyptic event causing all technology to cease to exist, I do not believe we will ever be able to as a whole reconnect with nature as we once were, but we can still have more meaningful and fulfilling experiences by reminding each other that the moment happening right now is the only one that truly matters because life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
