Importance of a Strong School-Home Relationship
When
a student is at the beginning stages of their education, this is the most
important time for a student to form tendencies that can be good or detrimental
to their learning process. Having good
teachers and principles is very important because if a child has a bad
situation at home, they have someone to turn to and not feel "alone."
When a child thinks they have no one to talk to or ask for help, this is a huge
reason why so many kids struggle. Make them know it's always okay to ask for
help. Not every situation will be the
same, so preparing educators to notice how to handle different situations would
be critical to the teaching process and success rate. Having involved parents helps because when
the teacher and parent can communicate directly, it can turn a bad situation
around faster because parents can push the child more effectively than a
teacher. Parents have a huge advantage
because kids are only at school part-time.
Parents also know their children's limits and can communicate with the
teacher if they need extra help at school and aren't just slacking off. Lower-income communities see more problems
with connecting with parents because they are always working or don't care. With the creation of the Mood Check-In, this
will help the teachers with getting some insight into their home life. I see this as a huge step in the right direction.
